Held at the Continuing Education Building, the Monday, January 24 Leadership class was a great success. Guest speakers Ronnie Burke and Chad Bennett spoke on family connections and community issues.
Sgt. Chad Bennett spoke to the class mainly about drug and substance abuse. Sgt. Bennett is actively involved in the fight against meth and warned students of the devastating effects that meth can have on the body, even after only one use. The students applied their newly-acquired knowledge of meth and the dangers it entails as they viewed numerous METH ads on the internet. Though the ads were extremely realistic, they provided the students with an actualization of the harmful effects one bad decision can bring.
Students also received "Field Trip Permission Forms" which must be signed by parents and teachers in order to participate in the February 3rd Industry Tour. Forms should be completed and return by Monday, January 31.
Students: Remember that you are required to serve (5) volunteer hours, but are permitted to do as many as you please! The student with the most service hours will receive $25 in Bainbridge Bucks.
See you next week, January 31 at Continuing Ed!
This was and interesting class. Coach Chad and Mr. Burke were good teachers. I am glad that Mr. Burke gave us the statistics of the things that go on in Decatur County, and I am glad that Coach Chad stressed that people should NOT use drugs(especially Meth). I learned something because I didn't know that Meth was that strong. Again I enjoyed the class.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your feedback, Diamond! We appreciate your cooperation and I hope that you will continue to learn more and more from the remaining classes. :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the class on Monday! I feel as if I learned so much in just a short amount of time. I found it interesting just how many ways that I could be a part of and help my community when Mr. Burke shared his portion of the lesson. When Sgt. Bennett shared his part of the lesson, I was shocked by the facts and information that was presented to us. The commercials that we watched about being above the influence were intense but made quite the impact. One thing that I loved about Monday night was our quotes that were on the wall. When I first walked in, I did not realize that the quotes from the wall came from our essays. I thought it was neat to read what everyone said about leadership and teamwork. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed and learned alot from Mr. Burke and Sgt. Bennett's Family Connections and Community Issues class. :)
ReplyDeleteMonday's class was a great eye opener for me! As a student of this Leadership class, I was enthralled with the information about the communities involvement with volunteering. Mr. Burke delivered an interesting discussion on how I as a member of Bainbridge's youth could help out with local projects (such as the Family Connections). Sgt. Bennett's talk about drug abuse also was an epiphany for the student's to understand the great influence people have on this community. The local organizations mentioned, and health commercials shared gave us an impression of what leadership is all about. After class, Friday night I volunteered with friends at Bingo Night. Everybody had an overall fun experience, even though none of us won! I was surprised by how far a little help can go in our community!!! Thanks again to Mr. Burke, Sgt. Bennett, and not to mention the Woman of the Year, Ms. Charlotte Howard!
ReplyDeleteThis class should be taught throughout or community. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that this class was a great way to keep us from straying down the wrong path. When Sgt. Bennett started to describe the lives of addicts everywhere, I was shocked. The effects on the bodies of a user are horrible. Their lives from the first use is just a doward spiral. This class made me realize how the outside world is not as nice as I thought. What I learned from this class is always going to be in the back of my head throughout life. Thank you so much for this amazing wake-up call about drugs and the outside world!
ReplyDeleteMan! I haven't ever heard that much crazy information at once before! I had no idea that Decatur County was struggling as much as it is! This class made me realize that I am not very tuned in with my community like I thought I was. When I left the class, I had an urge to volunteer! I hope that through the leadership class we will all have the attitude to make a change in our area. Mr. Burke and Sgt. Bennett did an excellent job! Thanks to everyone who put the class together! It was much needed!
ReplyDeleteI pretty much agree with what everyone has said. The stats on the current issues in Bainbridge are startling as well as eye-opening.Both Mr. Burke and Sgt. Bennett did a great job on their presentations.

ReplyDeleteThe statistics Mr. Burke gave were astonishing! (Especially the illiteracy rate in Decatur Co.) I had no idea how large the number of people struggling in our own community was. From now on I will definitely be appreciating the circumstances I have been given, and make a bigger effort to reach out to others.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the class that week. Mr. Burke was awesome to come in and tell us about the different organizations that help decatur county. And I did not know there was 28,000 people in Deactur county! We finally upgraded from a village to a town lol jk:-) Many of those statistics were shocking, like the illiteracy rate in our county. But I thank him for coming as well as Sheriff Bennet for tell us about Meth and how it's becoming a common drug of choice. Them addicts know they be looking nasty! Lol:-) I'm not kidding about that its true. But I had a great time at class and again thank you for coming!!!
ReplyDeleteThis class was very informative for me! I learned a lot about our own community, and the kinds of issues that we face. I enjoyed the class, and to be honest, there wasn't a time when I felt bored or disinterested. I want to thank both speakers for coming for us!
ReplyDeleteThis class was very interesting. Mr. Burke and Officer Bennet informed me on many facts and statistics that i did not know about
ReplyDeleteBainbridge.
I really liked this class. Mr. Burke and Sgt. Bennett as well as Ms. Charlotte talked about and covered throughly all the issues the class thought were a problem in our community. I think it rreally opened up the eyes of all of us and showed what a bad decision can do to someone.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this class. Mr. Burke and Sgt. Bennet did a great job. I was really surprised by some of the statistics they gave. Most importantly, I learned to not do meth!
ReplyDeleteThis class taught me the most important issues in Decatur County. They both did a great job teaching the information to us.
